In the Union Budget 2023-24, the government allocated Rs. 89,155 crore (US$ 10.76 billion) to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The Indian government is planning to introduce a credit incentive programme worth Rs. 500 billion (US$ 6.8 billion) to boost the country’s healthcare infrastructure. India’s public expenditure on healthcare touched 2.1 % of GDP in FY23 and 2.2% in FY22, against 1.6% in FY21, as per the Economic Survey 2022-23.
